Privacy Policy

tl;dr: We use analytics to improve the app and AI to summarize public data. We never track you personally.

1. What we collect

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how people use Snow Doctor. This is anonymous, big-picture stuff like:

  • Which mountain zones are being viewed most often.
  • Which features get the most clicks.
  • General location (e.g., "someone from Calgary"), not your specific address.

2. Why we collect it

This isn't for ads. It's to answer questions like, "Should we add more zones in the Kootenays?" or "Is anyone actually using this button?" Your anonymous usage helps us make Snow Doctor better for everyone.

3. Your Identity is Private

We use IP Anonymization with Google Analytics. This means your full IP address is scrubbed before it’s stored. We don't collect names or emails. To us, you're just an anonymous skier helping us build a better tool.

4. Use of AI for Summaries

To create the "Doctor's Orders", we send the publicly available information from our data sources (like Avalanche Canada bulletins) to Google's Gemini models for processing.

Crucially, none of your personal information is included.

Your IP address, location, or any other data about you is never sent to Google as part of this process. The AI only sees the public snow and weather text, nothing else.

5. Your Choice

If you prefer not to be included in our anonymous stats, you can click "Decline" on the cookie banner or use a browser tool like the Google Analytics Opt-out Add-on.
